How to Map a Network Drive in File Explorer

Mapping a network drive creates a shortcut on your computer so you can easily access shared MORPC folders (such as department or project drives) from File Explorer.

Before You Start

Make sure you are either connected to MORPC Staff Wi‑Fi while in the office, or connected to the VPN if working remotely.

Step‑by‑Step Instructions

1. Open File Explorer
Click the folder icon on your taskbar or press Windows key + E.

2. Open This PC
In the left‑hand menu, click This PC. Right‑click This PC and select Map a network drive.

3. Choose a Drive Letter
Select an available drive letter from the drop-down menu:

            N:

            O:

            T:

4. Enter the network folder path in the empty Folder: field
Type the network path provided by IT exactly as shown between the [brackets] below, but do not include the brackets:

            N: [\\filedfs1\Trans]

            O: [\\filedfs1\Transii]

            T: [\\filedfs1\GIS1]

5. Reconnect Automatically
 Check Reconnect at sign‑in.

6. Finish
Click Finish and enter your MORPC credentials if prompted (MORPC credentials is the Microsoft password you use to sign into your laptop each day).

7. Confirm the Drive Is Mapped
Open File Explorer and verify the drive appears under This PC on the left panel.

When to Contact IT
Submit a ticket if the drive does not map, disappears repeatedly, or access is denied.
