Type of Notice: Security Update
Level of Impact: High
Urgency Level: Med
User Action Required: Yes (No immediate action required)
Purpose: To enhance security and protect against potential data breaches.
General Details: Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, December 10, 2024, USB ports on all company laptops will be blocked to prevent the use of flash drives and other external storage devices. Mouse and keyboard dongles as well as USB printer connections will still function normally - this change will apply to storage devices only. This measure is being implemented to mitigate security risks associated with unauthorized data transfers and potential malware infections.
User Action Required:
- Do not attempt to use USB flash drives or external storage devices on company laptops after the specified date.
- If you need to transfer files, please use approved cloud storage solutions or network drives. (OneDrive and Sharepoint are fantastic ways to share documents or to keep a backup copy of a presentation handy. IT is happy to provide any support needed in helping to set up these solutions.)
- If you have a legitimate need to use a USB flash drive, please submit a ticket to the IT Team at support@morpc.org. We will review your use case to determine if an exemption should be granted.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we take steps to ensure the security of our organization’s data.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any member of the IT team should there be any further assistance needed regarding this Service Notice.
